Dorms are full of people, but that does not mean no one feels lonely. A student can pass dozens of classmates in the hallway, hear voices through the wall, and still feel like there is no one to call.

College and boarding school are often described as social adventures. For some students, they are. For others, the constant activity makes loneliness feel even more embarrassing. Everyone else seems busy, connected, and confident.

The solution is not forcing students into loud events every weekend. Some people need quieter ways to connect: study groups, small dinners, hobby clubs, peer mentors, or common spaces that feel welcoming.

Students can also help by inviting others without making it awkward and checking in when someone disappears from routines.

Loneliness is not always visible. A crowded building can hide it well. Community is built when students notice one another beyond the noise.
