Environmental issue in China

There are many environmental problems in China today, such as garbage disposal, desertification, water pollution, air pollution, soil erosion and biodiversity destruction. I think the problem of garbage disposal is the most serious and urgent to be resolved, because this problem greatly affected our living quality and nation’s environment.
First of all, with the development of China’s urbanization and the rapid growth of the urban economy, the garbage problem has become very serious. Due to the rapid increase in the output of garbage, and the volume of garbage production is far greater than the volume of garbage removal and transportation. According to reliable data, China’s accumulated waste accumulation is 6 billion tons, and the area of occupied land is 500 million square meters. The reason for the large amount of garbage is that with the increase in the quality of life of urban residents, people have increased the use of many plastics, paper, rubber, coal and other domestic garbage. The problem of large amounts of garbage not only occurs in large cities, but also frequently becomes the problem in small cities. Moreover, many large factories produce a large amount of industrial waste every year and emit harmful gases and substances. As the problem of garbage becomes serious, it disrupts the balance of the urban ecological environment system and also restricts socio-economic development. Other than that the garbage problem can cause excessive land occupation, because garbage dumped on the outskirts of the city encroached on a lot of farmland and occupied many useful places. In addition, garbage pollutes the air; they emit a large amount of pollutants such as ammonia, sulfide and the smell of the garbage are fetid. Furthermore, Garbage will pollute a large number of water sources because the harmful components of the garbage will enter the water through rainwater, and a large amount of acidic and alkaline organic pollutants will be discharged to the water conservancy. Water pollution from litter can also cause animal deaths and cause damage to the ecosystem.
Second, at present, there are three main methods for treating garbage in China: landfill garbage, incineration and high temperature composting. Landfill garbage means burying garbage in the soil, but doing so will cause secondary pollutants to pollute the surrounding environment. Incineration of garbage will effectively clean up the garbage, but dioxin is harmful to the human body when the garbage is incinerated. The high-temperature composting method can recycle the waste products, but the waste nitrogen will be lost after treatment. I think the best way to dispose of garbage is to sort the garbage and minimize domestic garbage. Shanghai has implemented garbage sorting some time ago. Garbage is classified as hazardous, recyclable, wet, and dry. If citizens do not comply with the regulations, they will be punished to varying degrees depending on the severity of the situation. I think the garbage sorting solution can be very helpful. In addition, citizens should also try their best to reduce daily life garbage. The methods include reusing water resource and reduce the amount of the dirty water, using paper multiple times, using rechargeable batteries, and buying disposable items in small quantities.
In short, garbage problem is a huge environmental problem in China, and this problem negatively affected our life. Thus, citizens should use practical methods to solve the problem.
